Sydney Sweeney Reportedly in Final Talks to Star in Live-Action ‘Gundam’ Movie

Sydney Sweeney is close to securing a lead role in the upcoming live-action “Gundam” movie. The film is being developed by Legendary Entertainment and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
The movie will be written and directed by Jim Mickle, best known for his work on the Netflix series “Sweet Tooth.” Mickle will also produce the project alongside Linda Moran through their production company, Nightshade.
“Gundam” is a legendary Japanese sci-fi franchise that began in 1979. The original TV series, “Mobile Suit Gundam,” was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino. Over the years, the franchise expanded to include animated films, novels, manga, toys, models, and video games.
The story takes place in the distant future during a time known as the Universal Century. In this era, human colonies in space fight for independence from Earth. These battles are fought using massive, powerful robots known as Mobile Suits.
Legendary first announced the “Gundam” live-action film in 2021. Originally, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of “Kong: Skull Island,” was attached to direct. However, Jim Mickle has since taken over the project.
At this time, the film’s plot and character details remain a secret. Legendary Entertainment has declined to comment on the details of the movie, the rumors of Sweeney’s involvement with the movie were reported by notable insider Jeff Sneider.
Sweeney is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. She has recently appeared in major films like “Madame Web,” “Immaculate,” and Ron Howard’s survival thriller “Eden.”
On the TV side, Sweeney is expected to return for Season 3 of HBO’s hit show “Euphoria,” where she stars alongside Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.
