Sydney Sweeney is getting real about love, heartbreak, and what she wants next in her personal life. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the actress shared the kind of partner she hopes to find and opened up about how difficult dating has been since her breakup.

Sweeney said she is drawn to someone who matches her energy and lifestyle. “Athletic and outgoing and funny. I’m a sporty girl, so someone needs to be able to climb a mountain with me, go skydiving with me. And someone who loves their family. I love myself a man…” she explained during the interview.

The 28-year-old also spoke about her long relationship with ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino. The two were together for seven and a half years but chose to stay very private. “I was very private. No one would ever see us. I think it’s important to have some things for myself,” Sweeney said. Dating rumors first started in 2018, and the couple got engaged in 2022 before quietly ending their relationship in March 2025.

According to Sweeney, living under constant public attention made it important for her to protect parts of her personal life. She said she always wanted to experience love in her own way, even while millions of people followed her career and daily moves.

Starting over has not been easy. The actress admitted that the breakup hit her hard. “I spent months crying my eyes out,” she revealed. Because she has never used dating apps and rarely meets people in a casual way like most of her friends do, she said she still feels unsure about how to jump back into the dating world.

She also laughed about the nonstop rumors that seem to follow her. “I wake up and I find out I’m dating a different guy anytime I stand in a room where there’s a single man,” she joked. Tabloids have linked her to several people, including music executive Scooter Braun, and sometimes even reconnect her to Davino, but sources say she has already moved forward.

While her love life has been complicated, her career is on a major high. Sweeney recently gained strong attention for her role in the psychological thriller The Housemaid, released in late 2025. The film, directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, performed well at the box office and already has a sequel in the works.

She also impressed critics with her transformation into boxing icon Christy Martin for the biopic Christy. Sweeney trained intensely to build strength and muscle for the role, and many reviewers praised the performance for feeling both powerful and real. The movie dives into Martin’s victories in the ring as well as the struggles she faced in her personal life.

The actress is not slowing down anytime soon. She is set to begin filming the Kim Novak biopic Scandalous!, directed by Colman Domingo, and will appear in Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie. Fans are also waiting for her return as Cassie Howard in season three of Euphoria, which is expected to premiere on April 12. Other upcoming projects include the sci-fi reboot Barbarella and the thriller Echo Valley.

Even with fame and constant headlines, Sweeney’s story shows that celebrities deal with the same questions about love as anyone else, just on a much bigger stage.
