Sydney Sweeney Says Her Dad and Grandpa Walked Out During NSFW Euphoria Scenes

Sydney Sweeney has opened up about an awkward moment that happened when her family tried to watch Euphoria for the first time. The actress said the experience did not go well for everyone, especially the men in her family.

During an interview on Sunday Today with Willie Geist, Sweeney explained that her father and grandfather were not ready for the kind of scenes the HBO series is known for. She said she never warned her dad about what the show included.

“I didn’t prepare my dad at all,” she said. According to Sweeney, he decided to watch the show on his own with his parents. That decision did not last long. “My dad and my grandpa turned it off and walked out,” she shared.

Sweeney said her mother had already been on set and knew what the show was about, so she was not surprised. Her grandmother also reacted very differently. She stayed put and was not bothered by the content at all. Sweeney has said before that her grandmother is one of her biggest supporters. She often brings her to sets and even gives her small roles as an extra.

Despite the uncomfortable family moment, Sweeney has nothing but pride for Euphoria and her role as Cassie Howard. She spoke about how much she enjoys playing such a complicated character. “She’s a beautiful, broken character,” Sweeney said. “I love playing Cassie, especially last season because she was so crazy. As an actor, that’s just so much fun to kind of stretch your legs and play characters that go insane.”

Sweeney’s career has continued to grow fast. In 2025, she starred in the thriller The Housemaid, which became a huge box office hit and made over $250 million worldwide.

Fans will also see her in The Devil Wears Prada 2, set to release on May 1. On television, HBO has confirmed that Euphoria will return for Season 3 on April 12. The new season will jump five years into the future and follow the characters as adults.
