The video got a fresh burst of attention when Taran Tactical Innovations, a company that sells firearms, shared the clip again on their Instagram. They posted it alongside her controversial American Eagle ad. Both posts got a lot of praise for Sweeney from viewers.
Sydney Sweeney, who is 27 and known for her role in HBO’s “Euphoria,” faced online criticism after some people said her July commercial had strange eugenics vibes. The ad focused heavily on her figure, especially her chest, which made some people upset.
According to public voter records from Monroe County, Florida, Sweeney officially registered as a Republican in June 2024. This added more attention to the controversy.
The viral video from 2019 shows Sydney at a shooting range, practicing for a movie role. She confidently shoots several dummy targets in just a few seconds and barely reacts to the strong kickback from the gun.
While Sweeney hasn’t publicly responded to the ad controversy, she showed up at a screening for her new movie “Americana” on Monday. At the event, a fan shouted at her, saying, “Stop the ad, that is being racist!” TMZ reported this incident.
President Donald Trump also spoke out after hearing about her political registration. He praised her commercial, saying, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
Trump later posted on TruthSocial and took a jab at singer Taylor Swift, who supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. He wrote, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!”
