Akira (franchise)

Akira is a Japanese cyberpunk franchise based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s influential manga, which ran from 1982 to 1990 and was adapted into the acclaimed 1988 anime film. Set in futuristic Neo-Tokyo, the story follows biker gang leader Kaneda as his friend Tetsuo develops dangerous psychic powers after a government experiment. As Tetsuo loses control, Kaneda, Kei, Colonel Shikishima, and the Espers work together to stop him and prevent another catastrophic destruction of the city.
