Escape from New York (Film)

Escape from New York is a 1981 science-fiction action film directed and co-written by John Carpenter, starring Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a former special forces operative forced to rescue the U.S. President from a maximum-security prison created from Manhattan. Set in a dystopian 1997, the film follows Plissken as he races against a 24-hour deadline after Air Force One is hijacked and crashes inside the fortified island. Made on an estimated $6 million budget, the film grossed more than $50 million, earned four Saturn Award nominations, became a cult classic, and spawned the 1996 sequel Escape from L.A.
