Once Upon a Time in Harlem (Film)

Once Upon a Time in Harlem is a 2026 documentary co-directed by William Greaves and David Greaves about a 1972 gathering of surviving Harlem Renaissance figures. The footage, filmed at Duke Ellington’s former Harlem townhouse, remained unfinished for more than 50 years before David Greaves revisited it following his father’s death. The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and later screened at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, where it was nominated for the L’Œil d’or.
