Sleeping Beauty (Franchise)

Disney’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ franchise began with the 1959 animated classic, based on Charles Perrault’s fairy tale, in which Maleficent curses Princess Aurora to fall into a deathlike sleep that only true love’s kiss can break. It grew through the live-action ‘Maleficent’ films, which retell the story from the villain’s perspective in 2014 and 2019, plus tie-ins like the ‘Descendants’ movies, ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘Kingdom Hearts’. The latest addition is an untitled original film from ‘Prey’ director Dan Trachtenberg, reportedly inspired by the tale but unconnected to the ‘Maleficent’ movies.
