Taylor Sheridan is best known these days as the creator behind some of television’s biggest hits, but he’s about to spend some more time in front of the camera.

While Sheridan continues to oversee an expanding lineup of shows, he’s also set to appear in the upcoming third season of his hit show.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which confirmed that Sheridan will have an acting role in the new season of Lioness. Details about his character are still being kept secret, although the report says he’ll share scenes with Thad Luckinbill, who plays CIA paramilitary officer Kyle McManus.

Luckinbill also spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about working with Sheridan both as a creator and as a fellow actor. He praised Sheridan’s ability to balance writing, producing, and acting while staying involved with the series.

“He’s involved. I mean, he has a role, which is great. And the show’s better for it when he plays a role. He’s a great character, and he kills it. So, I love when he comes in and plays with us,” Luckinbill said.

Although many viewers now know Sheridan for creating hit series like Yellowstone, Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, The Madison, and Lioness, acting was actually how he first entered the entertainment industry. Before becoming one of television’s most successful writers and producers, he appeared in shows including Sons of Anarchy, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Veronica Mars.

Since focusing on writing, Sheridan has become much more selective about taking acting roles. He has appeared as horse trainer Travis Wheatley in Yellowstone, played Charles Goodnight in the prequel series 1883, and showed up in the second season of Lioness as CIA operative Cody Spears.

While Paramount+ has not officially revealed who Sheridan will play in Season 3, Luckinbill’s comments strongly suggest that he will be returning as Cody Spears rather than introducing a brand-new character.

Lioness has become one of Paramount+’s biggest original series since its debut. The spy thriller stars Zoe Saldaña as CIA officer Joe, alongside Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, and several other high-profile actors. The series follows an elite CIA program that sends female operatives undercover to stop terrorist threats around the world.

The third season arrives on Paramount+ this weekend with much of the main cast returning. According to the official synopsis released by Paramount+, the new episodes will raise the stakes even further.

“Hidden networks, foreign operatives and personal betrayals collide. Joe walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn and Westfield, Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.”

Sheridan has spent the last several years building one of the busiest television empires in Hollywood, making it rare for him to step back into acting. His appearances have usually been limited to small but memorable roles in his own productions, making his return in Lioness Season 3 another surprise for longtime fans.

With the new season about to premiere, viewers won’t have to wait long to find out exactly how Sheridan fits into the latest chapter of the spy drama and what role his character will play alongside the rest of the team.
