Taylor Sheridan is proving why he is one of Paramount+’s most important creators. At a recent press event in Los Angeles, the new Paramount leadership praised Sheridan’s work, calling his shows a key part of the company’s future.

“On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe,” said Cindy Holland, Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer. Paramount CEO David Ellison added, “a singular genius with a perfect track record.”

One of Sheridan’s hits, Lioness, also known as Special Ops: Lioness, has been officially renewed for its third season. Sources told Deadline that the delay in renewal was due to co-star Nicole Kidman needing a new contract, while Zoe Saldaña already had a three-season deal in place.

The new seasons will be filmed at a huge new studio in Fort Worth, Texas. The 450,000-square-foot facility is the largest working studio in the state. It’s part of the 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development and a joint effort between SGS Studios, Sheridan’s company with 101 Studios CEO David Glasser, Paramount Television, and Hillwood, a Perot Company.

Lioness is inspired by a real U.S. military program and follows CIA operative Joe, played by Saldaña, as she balances her personal life with dangerous missions on the front lines of the war on terror.

The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, and a team of producers including Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, and Michael Friedman. The show premiered on July 23, 2023, and the second season arrived on October 27, 2024.

The first season of Lioness became Paramount+’s most-watched global series premiere at the time, reaching nearly six million viewers in its first week across the platform and a preview on the Paramount Network. Critics gave the first season a 56% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which rose to 73% by April 2025. Season two has a 90% approval rating from critics.

Viewership for the second season was strong, with three million viewers in the first week and 8.3 million domestic households overall, a 10% increase from season one. Worldwide, the series attracted 12.4 million viewers across all platforms by November 10, 2024, making it the third most-watched global premiere on Paramount+.

Sheridan’s shows continue to be central to Paramount+. With multiple projects filming and new seasons on the way, the Taylor Sheridan universe is set to remain a major part of Paramount+ for years.
