Nintendo has confirmed that Mario’s next big-screen adventure will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The sequel will be released in theaters by Universal and Illumination on April 3, 2026. The announcement came during Friday’s Nintendo Direct, which also included a short teaser.

The movie takes its name from Super Mario Galaxy, the Wii game launched in 2007. In the teaser, Mario is seen resting near Princess Peach’s castle before the scene shifts toward space, hinting at the intergalactic setting fans know from the game.

The voice cast from the 2023 film is returning for the sequel. Chris Pratt will once again voice Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Princess Peach, Charlie Day plays Luigi, Jack Black is back as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson reprises Kamek.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in April 2023 and quickly became a box office hit. It earned $1.36 billion worldwide, making it the most successful video game adaptation in history. It also ranked as the fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time.

The original film followed Mario and Luigi as they were transported from Brooklyn into the Mushroom Kingdom. There, Mario teamed up with Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong to take on Bowser and rescue his brother.

Nintendo isn’t stopping with Mario. A live-action Legend of Zelda movie is in the works with Sony Pictures and will be directed by Wes Ball. That film is scheduled for March 26, 2027, and will star Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
