Avengers: Doomsday is the next main team-up film from Marvel Studios and AGBO, with Walt Disney Studios handling distribution. It will follow Avengers: Endgame and act as the fifth film in the Avengers series and the 39th chapter of the MCU. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing, and the script is written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
The movie brings together one of the biggest casts Marvel has assembled. Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Robert Downey Jr., and many others appear in the film. Downey plays a new version of Doctor Doom, who becomes the main threat. The story brings together heroes from the Avengers, Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the classic X-Men.
Marvel’s path to this film shifted over the last few years. The studio originally planned two Avengers movies titled The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, but development changed after director Destin Daniel Cretton left the project and Marvel reportedly moved away from the Kang storyline. The Russo brothers returned to direct, and the film received its new title, Doomsday. Filming started in April in England and also took place in Bahrain before wrapping in September.
The movie is set to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026. A follow-up, Secret Wars, is planned for December 17, 2027. The plot takes place more than a year after Thunderbolts and follows several hero teams joining forces to take on Doom.
