‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5 Gets Major Update From Apple TV Ahead of Season 4 Premiere
Fans of ‘Ted Lasso‘ have a reason to be hopeful about the show’s future. While season 4 has not even arrived yet, a new update from Apple TV executive Matt Cherniss suggests that the popular comedy series could continue beyond its upcoming return.
The future of ‘Ted Lasso’ became uncertain after season 3, which many viewers believed would be the final chapter of the Emmy-winning series. However, Apple TV later announced season 4, which will take the show in a new direction by following Ted Lasso as he takes on a new coaching challenge with a women’s soccer team.
Jason Sudeikis will return as Ted Lasso and remains heavily involved behind the scenes as a co-creator, showrunner, head writer, and executive producer. The upcoming season will bring back several familiar faces, including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift.
During an interview with Deadline, Matt Cherniss discussed the future of the series and gave fans an encouraging update about the possibility of season 5. According to Cherniss, Sudeikis is already thinking about what could come next, although Apple TV has not officially renewed the show for another season.
“Jason [Sudeikis is] still hard at work on season four, and I know he’s looking to jump into the next season soon, but to my knowledge, I don’t think we’ve gotten started on it yet,” Cherniss said.
While that comment does not confirm that season 5 is officially happening, it does suggest that conversations about continuing the series are already taking place. Apple TV appears confident in the future of the franchise and sees ‘Ted Lasso’ as one of its biggest comedy brands.
Cherniss also spoke about the company’s upcoming lineup and expressed excitement about having ‘Ted Lasso’ return to the awards conversation. He said Apple TV feels strongly about its comedy lineup and the audience response to its shows.

“It’s great, I feel like we have the best comedy brand in the business, and to be able to go from a season with Shrinking and Widow’s Bay and Margot’s Got Money Troubles to next year with Ted Lasso and The Studio coming back. We’re in a really good place as a service,” Cherniss said.
The upcoming fourth season will introduce a major change for Ted. Instead of coaching AFC Richmond, he will lead a second division women’s football team. According to the official season synopsis, Ted and the new team will learn to take risks and embrace challenges they never expected.
The new storyline could also open the door for a longer story arc. If season 5 happens, the series may continue exploring the women’s team in a way similar to how the first three seasons followed AFC Richmond.
Along with the returning cast, season 4 will feature several new actors, including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. Many of the new additions will play members of Ted’s new football team.
Are you excited about the possibility of Ted Lasso Season 5?
For now, fans still have to wait for season 4 before knowing exactly where the story goes next. But with Apple TV showing confidence and Sudeikis reportedly already looking ahead, the possibility of ‘Ted Lasso’ season 5 appears more realistic than ever.
‘Ted Lasso’ season 4 premieres August 5 on Apple TV.
