‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Season 3 Trailer Confirms October Premiere Date and a Mysterious New Character
Fall 2026’s anime lineup is stacked with returning fan favorites, from Black Clover’s long-awaited second season to the Dragon Ball Super revival, but few comebacks have generated as much anticipation as the return of Maomao and her sharp-witted mysteries. ‘The Apothecary Diaries‘ has built a devoted following since its 2023 debut, blending court intrigue with medical detective work in a way few other series have matched.
That anticipation only grew following a special second-anniversary event last October, where the third season was first announced as a split-cour broadcast. Since then, fans have been waiting for confirmation of exactly when the new episodes would finally arrive.
That wait is now over, with a newly released trailer confirming ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Season 3 will premiere on October 2, 2026. The season will air as a split cour, with the first half running this fall before the second cour picks up in April 2027, and Crunchyroll streaming episodes worldwide as they air.

The new season is set to kick off a darker chapter for Maomao and the rest of the cast, introducing a locust infestation that threatens to trigger a devastating famine. That looming crisis promises to raise the stakes well beyond what the series has tackled in its first two seasons, pulling Maomao into a mystery with consequences far larger than anything she’s previously faced.
Joining the cast for this new arc is voice actress Reina Ueda, who has been cast as Bai Niangniang, a pale and mysterious figure described in some reports as an “immortal maiden” and in others as living with albinism. Details about her exact role remain scarce, but the character is expected to play a significant part in the season’s unfolding storyline.
The trailer also gave fans their first preview of the season’s opening theme, “Kumo o Nuke Kazashimo e Watashi Dake,” performed by Yorushika, translating roughly to “I Am Alone, Breaking Through the Clouds Downwind.” Studio OLM has taken over full production duties for this season, notably without Toho Animation Studio’s involvement, which had co-produced the previous two seasons.
Season 3’s release lines up closely with another major project in the franchise’s expansion. ‘The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress’ Treasure,’ an original anime film written by series creator Natsu Hyuga, is set to premiere in Japan on December 11, 2026, positioned as canon and taking place chronologically between the events of seasons two and three.
The film follows Maomao and the rest of the cast as they work to bring a deceased consort’s body back to her home village, another entry in the series’ long line of court-set mysteries. While the movie’s Japanese release date is confirmed, no North American release date has been announced yet for the film.
With the TV series, an original film, and a live-action drama adaptation for Amazon Prime Video all now part of the franchise’s growing footprint, ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ shows no signs of slowing down.
