Beverly Hills has been part of Mila Kunis’ story for most of her life. She took her first acting classes at the Beverly Hills Studios at age 9, and the city has since been the backdrop for some of her biggest career moments. It remains one of the best places to catch a glimpse of her.

Over the past year, Kunis has been working her way back into the spotlight. In January, she returned to the Golden Globes after more than a decade away, presenting at the 83rd ceremony at the Beverly Hilton alongside her husband, Ashton Kutcher. She wore a monochromatic tea-length Carolina Herrera gown, a look that fashion writers called a departure from her usual style.

On October 12, she was photographed leaving the Beverly Hills Hotel, and her off-duty look was far more relaxed than the red carpet. She wore a cropped, collared sweater with wide black and white stripes, paired with light-wash blue jeans. A few small charms or keys hung from her waistband, and she finished the outfit with dark sunglasses.

Her long brown hair was worn loose, with lighter ends, and she was looking down at her phone in both frames. The combination of a bold stripe, relaxed denim and oversized sunglasses is the kind of easy outfit that tends to get picked up quickly by fans and style watchers. It reads as practical and polished without looking styled, which suits an actress who has leaned into a lower-key public image in recent years.

There is no word on why she was at the hotel, and none of the reporting I found explains the visit. For now, the photos are simply a snapshot of a busy stretch in a career that has been picking up again.

Kunis was born in 1983 in Chernivtsi, in what was then the Soviet Union, and moved to Los Angeles as a child. On her second day in the city, she was enrolled in elementary school without knowing a word of English. In 1998, she was cast as Jackie Burkhart on ‘That ’70s Show’, the role that launched her career and where she first worked alongside Kutcher, whom she married in 2015.

Her film credits include ‘Friends with Benefits’, opposite Justin Timberlake, and ‘Bad Moms’. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe and continues to voice Meg Griffin on ‘Family Guy’. She later reprised Jackie, with Kutcher, in a guest appearance on ‘That ’90s Show’.

Behind the camera, she works through her company, Orchard Farm Productions, which was behind the Netflix adaptation of ‘Luckiest Girl Alive’, in which she starred. Her profile dipped for a stretch after letters she and Kutcher wrote in support of Danny Masterson ahead of his sentencing were leaked, and the couple stepped back from public life.

Her most recent high-profile role came in Rian Johnson’s ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’, the third film in the Netflix series. The ensemble includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington and Andrew Scott. At the Los Angeles premiere, Kunis said she plans to do a maximum of 1 film a year so she can spend more time with her 2 children.

She is also set to lead and produce ‘The 47 Night Stand’, a Skydance romantic comedy written by Greg Malins, which marks a return to the genre after more than a decade. A German outlet has also reported that she is attached to a thriller called ‘Nightwatching’, based on Tracy Sierra’s debut novel, though that report has not been confirmed by a major trade outlet.

Kunis and Kutcher have also been active outside Hollywood. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kunis’ home country, the couple started a fundraising campaign that raised more than $30 million for those affected.

Taken together, the sighting is a small moment in a larger shift. Kunis is choosing fewer projects, taking on more producing work, and showing up for the occasional big event, which gives each appearance more weight. That approach seems to be working, as her return to the Golden Globes was widely described as an unexpected comeback.

Whether she is on a red carpet or stepping out in a striped sweater, she has remained one of the most closely watched stars of her generation.

Which Mila Kunis role would you most love to see her revisit?
