The Face That Broke the Avengers: New ‘Doomsday’ TV Spot Puts Doctor Doom Front and Center
Marvel Studios has spent the back half of 2026 in full promotional overdrive, rolling out trailers, D23 exclusives, and Comic-Con footage at a pace that makes clear just how much is riding on this December’s release. With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ having wrapped up the franchise’s last true team-up seven years ago, the pressure to make ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ feel like a genuine event has shaped nearly every beat of the marketing campaign since.
That rollout has leaned heavily on one figure above all others. Robert Downey Jr.’s pivot from Tony Stark to Doctor Doom has anchored the promotional push, with Marvel gradually revealing more of his transformation across a series of character teasers, a full trailer, and a special D23 look narrated by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm.
That drip-feed continues with yet another new TV spot for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ offering fans one more glimpse of Downey’s villain ahead of the film’s December 18 theatrical release. The newest spot keeps its focus squarely on Doom’s menace rather than spoiling broader plot details about how the film’s sprawling ensemble ultimately collides.

That restraint tracks with the studio’s approach throughout the entire campaign, consistently favoring emotionally charged glimpses over comprehensive plot reveals. Much of the anticipation surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ stems from the sheer novelty of watching Downey, who spent 11 films building goodwill as Iron Man, step into the role of the MCU’s next major antagonist.
That shift represents a genuine gamble for Marvel, asking longtime fans to root against, or at least fear, an actor they’ve cheered for over more than a decade. The D23 trailer leaned directly into that tension, with Kirby’s Sue Storm narrating that she knew Doom was lost but hadn’t realized how thoroughly he was broken, while Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic confronted him amid the rubble and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor promised Doom would be “begging for hell” before facing him.
Beyond Downey’s central role, the marketing has also leaned into other emotionally resonant threads, including Chris Evans’s return as Steve Rogers alongside Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, both of whom teased at D23 that their reunion carries genuine weight within the story. Earlier September TV spots specifically spotlighted the film’s sprawling ensemble, bringing the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men together in the same promotional beats.
The scale of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has been part of the story from the beginning, with the film pulling together heroes from three distinct cinematic universes onto a collision course against an existential threat. Its cast list reads like a who’s who of Marvel history, including Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.
Even that massive roster hasn’t stopped other stars from campaigning for a spot. At D23, Hugh Jackman crashed the panel with a surprise video message alongside an off-screen Ryan Reynolds, joking that he wanted to check in “totally unprompted” to see if the film might need some help rounding out the cast, and hinting he might even be able to convince Reynolds to appear as well.
Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmakers behind some of the MCU’s biggest previous team-up films, are directing ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and producing through their AGBO banner alongside Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito. The film is set for release exclusively in theaters on December 18, and will also be available in INFINITY VISION, a newly created certification for Premium Large Format cinemas designed to guarantee audiences a top-tier presentation with big screens, bright images, and standout sound.
With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ also getting a theatrical re-release ahead of the new film to remind audiences exactly where everyone left off, Marvel is clearly betting big on nostalgia and scale in equal measure. Every new trailer, spot, and convention reveal seems designed to build toward a theatrical event the studio hasn’t attempted in years.
