The Final Chapter Begins: ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Volume 2 Trailer Unveils Dream’s Last Stand
Netflix has dropped the official trailer for The Sandman Season 2: Volume 2, and it gives fans a clear glimpse of what’s coming next. This part will wrap up the story of Dream, also known as Morpheus. The new episodes arrive on July 24, 2025, and a bonus episode is set to land a week later on July 31.
The series is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book, which ran from 1989 to 1996. It follows Dream, a powerful being who rules over the world of dreams, as he tries to fix the damage caused by his long absence. The show stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, with Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt playing key roles. It was created by Gaiman along with David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, and it’s produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.

Getting The Sandman made into a show wasn’t easy. It all started back in 1991 when there were first attempts to turn it into a movie. That didn’t work out. Years later, in 2013, Goyer pitched the idea again, this time with Gaiman also involved. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was supposed to star and maybe even direct. But by 2016, he walked away due to creative issues. After that, Warner Bros. dropped the movie idea and focused on turning the story into a series instead.
Netflix picked it up in June 2019. Season 1 was filmed from late 2020 to mid-2021 and finally released on August 5, 2022. All ten episodes came out at once, and fans got a surprise bonus episode a couple of weeks later. Critics praised the visuals, the acting, and how closely the show stuck to the original comics.
Netflix announced a second season in November 2022, and by January 2025, it was made clear that Season 2 would be the last. The final season is split into two volumes. Volume 1 came out on July 3, and now Volume 2 is right around the corner.
Filming for the second season started in June 2023 at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Things were briefly paused because of the SAG-AFTRA strike that same summer, but Neil Gaiman confirmed on November 30, 2023, that filming had started again. By August 2024, it was all wrapped up.
Season 2 has gotten a mix of reviews so far. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 75% score based on 20 reviews. The site said, “The Sandman’s second season occasionally meanders like a half-remembered dream, but Tom Sturridge’s ethereal performance continues to give this fantasy heft.” On Metacritic, it got a 61 out of 100, based on 11 reviews, which means most critics had a generally positive view.
Now that Netflix has released the trailer for Volume 2, fans are getting ready to say goodbye to a series that has taken a long time to make it to screen. After years of delays and changes, Dream’s story is finally reaching its end, and the trailer makes it clear it’s going to be a big one.
