Amanda Seyfried has had a year that most actors would envy. She earned two Golden Globe nominations for ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ and ‘Long Bright River,’ and she has been one of the most consistent faces on the 2026 red carpet circuit. So it was no surprise that Amanda Seyfried’s Academy Museum Gala look generated plenty of buzz.

The sixth annual gala took place on October 17 in Los Angeles. Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter were honored, Taylor Swift was set to perform, and the evening was presented by Rolex. It is often called the “Met Gala of the West,” and it usually delivers a first taste of awards-season fashion.

Seyfried arrived in Prada, wearing a strapless gown in a deep, midnight-navy shade, with Tiffany & Co. jewelry. A sleek, structured bodice gives way to a full skirt trimmed with layered, pleated side panels that flare out at the sides and are tied at the hips.

In the carpet clip, Seyfried looks down and holds the sides of the skirt, letting the pleated layers fan out around her. The center of the gown is smooth and fitted, while the sheer, tiered panels give the silhouette motion, almost like a hidden cape that opens when she moves.

She kept the rest of the look understated. Her long blond hair falls loose past her shoulders, and a sparkling necklace is the only real shine against the dark fabric. That restraint lets the draping carry the look.

This isn’t the first time she has paired Prada with the gala. At last year’s event, she wore a Prada gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, and the repeat suggests a comfortable relationship with the label. At the 2026 Met Gala in May, she wore a custom alabaster-pink silk faille Prada ballgown with hidden functional pockets, a drop waist, symmetrical bows and a ruffled train.

Compared with that pink confection, the gala dress is quieter and more graphic. It trades princess energy for a darker, more architectural mood.

Her fashion run has gone hand in hand with her work. At the 2026 Golden Globes, she wore a custom Versace strapless ivory gown with a sweetheart bodice and a form-fitting silhouette, reportedly requiring 400 hours of work. She was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ and for Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for ‘Long Bright River.’

She previously won a Golden Globe for ‘The Dropout.’ In ‘The Testament of Ann Lee,’ she plays Ann Lee, the founder of the Shaker movement, in a film from the makers of ‘The Brutalist,’ and she trained on and off for a year to get the choreography right.

At the gala, Seyfried also teased that something big is going on behind the scenes. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet, she hinted that life is busy at the moment and that she can’t talk much about a buzzworthy new project she is part of, for a good reason.

That kind of mystery adds to the interest around her appearances. Fans are left wondering what she is working on while she keeps the focus on the fashion.

Seyfried has attended the Met Gala several times, and her styles have ranged widely. At the 2023 Met Gala, she wore a sheer nude minidress by Oscar de la Renta with cascading golden strands and a corset bodice, a flapper-inspired look. That is a long way from this year’s moody navy.

The range is part of why her carpet appearances keep drawing attention. She can go playful, romantic or dramatic, and she tends to commit fully to whichever mood she chooses.

The guest list was packed. Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kerry Washington, Hunter Schafer, Adria Arjona and Chase Infiniti all walked the carpet, along with Jodie Turner-Smith and Maya Hawke.

Next to those statement gowns, Seyfried’s midnight-navy dress stood out for its softness. It is the kind of look that photographs well in motion, which is exactly what the gala’s draped-curtain backdrop rewards.

The strength of the gown is in its contrast. The bodice is clean and strict, while the skirt is airy and layered, and the dark color keeps it elegant. It reads as formal without feeling stiff.

On a night when many guests went classic with black and texture, this piece added a little drama through draping alone. It is a quiet showstopper in the best way.
