‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ Just Got Even Twistier as Brittany Snow Joins Sydney Sweeney’s Sequel
Book-to-screen adaptations don’t always translate into franchise territory, but every so often a surprise hit generates enough momentum to justify building out an entire cinematic universe around it. That’s exactly the trajectory one particular thriller has followed since its unexpected box office breakout last year.
The story behind that success has become something of an industry talking point in its own right, with a modest production budget yielding numbers that far exceeded initial expectations. As the sequel comes together, casting news has continued rolling in, each addition adding another layer of star power to an already stacked ensemble.
Brittany Snow has officially joined the cast of ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ Lionsgate’s follow-up to 2025’s sleeper hit ‘The Housemaid,’ according to Variety. Snow joins previously announced stars Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst, and Paul Anthony Kelly, rounding out a roster that continues to grow ahead of the sequel’s production start later this year.
Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, the sequel picks up as Sweeney’s character Millie Calloway, who works as a live-in maid for wealthy families, takes a new job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see. Per the film’s official plot description, Millie eventually uncovers the truth behind the locked door, a discovery that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own. Snow will play Marybeth, described as an unassuming receptionist working at the husband’s company.
Michele Morrone is also set to return as Enzo, reprising his groundskeeper role from the original film, though Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who played the husband and wife at the center of the first movie’s twisted household, won’t be returning this time around, as the sequel shifts focus to an entirely new family. Dunst will play the reclusive Wendy Garrick, Millie’s new and mysterious employer.
Reflecting on joining the franchise, Dunst previously spoke about meeting Sweeney for the first time, recalling the moment with genuine emotion. “When I saw Sydney Sweeney, I actually started to cry,” Dunst said in an interview with E! News. “It was so emotional, getting to see Millie, this character that I spent so long with in my head, and she was the sweetest. She was so nice. She hugged me, and she just she seemed like the sweetest person.”
Paul Feig returns to direct the sequel, having previously steered the original ‘The Housemaid’ to a massive $400 million globally against a modest $35 million budget, a return on investment that made a sequel feel almost inevitable. Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book for the screen, is also back to pen the follow-up.
Producing duties will be shared between Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman, Feig and his producing partner Laura Fischer through Pretty Dangerous Pictures, and Sweeney herself through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. Lionsgate motion picture group president Erin Westerman praised the expanding cast in a statement, calling Dunst “an icon” whose career “reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness.”
With Lionsgate reportedly eager to turn ‘The Housemaid’ into a full-fledged franchise following the original’s runaway success, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is set to open in theaters on December 17, 2027.
