The LEGO ‘Interstellar’ Set Fans Have Begged For Might Finally Be Real

A LEGO ‘Interstellar’ set has long been one of the most requested builds in the LEGO Ideas community. Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic is packed with iconic hardware, from a ring-shaped mothership to a rugged little shuttle, so it was only a matter of time before fan designers started turning it into bricks. Year after year, though, the dream stayed on the drawing board.

The film’s staying power explains the passion. Released in November 2014, it follows Matthew McConaughey’s Cooper and Anne Hathaway’s Dr. Amelia Brand as they travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a habitable planet for humanity, with Bill Irwin handling the robots TARS and CASE. It won Best Visual Effects at the 87th Academy Awards and has grossed $774.7 million worldwide including later releases.

Behind the scenes, Nolan co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan, and physicist Kip Thorne served as executive producer and scientific consultant. Hans Zimmer’s score leans on the Temple Church organ in London, while Nolan shot the movie on a mix of 35mm film and 65mm IMAX film. That blend of big science and tactile filmmaking is a natural fit for a building toy.

Now, an official ‘Interstellar’ LEGO set appears to be moving forward. Reports published on November 8 claim the LEGO Ideas team has selected a fan-designed ‘Interstellar’ build, apparently after its first 2026 review results were posted by mistake ahead of an official reveal expected on November 9. Out of 97 projects that reached 10,000 supporters in that review, the ‘Interstellar’ design is reportedly 1 of just 3 picked for production.

The listing credits fan designer Minibrick41587, the creator behind 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera, and describes a 561-piece model of the spaceship from the movie. It includes 2 minifigures and the robot CASE. Earlier descriptions of the project say the Ranger seats Cooper and Dr. Brand inside, with an opening door at the back and a TARS figure alongside CASE.

This is not the designer’s first attempt. A Ranger version submitted on September 11, 2023 reached 10,000 supporters but didn’t qualify to become a set. The reworked 561-piece version qualified again on February 3, 2026, giving it a second chance.

Minibrick41587 also had a far bigger ‘Interstellar’ idea in the same review, which qualified on February 7, 2026. That proposal runs to over 3,000 pieces and features the Endurance’s large ring, 2 Rangers, a pair of Landers that dock right-side up and upside down, a display stand, and microfigures and minifigures of Cooper, Brand, Doyle, Romilly and Dr. Mann. Since the leaked piece count matches the Ranger, the smaller design appears to be the one moving ahead.

The appetite for an ‘Interstellar’ LEGO set is clearly there. The second 2026 review also brought 2 bookend designs based on the film, which reached 10,000 supporters in August. One, from motiv56, uses 585 elements to show Cooper and TARS sending a message on his watch to get his daughter Murph to save the world, while the other is a Tesseract pair from Minibrick41587.

The timing for those bookend entries makes sense, since LEGO has been leaning strongly into bookshelf builds lately, including Glinda and Elphaba bookends and a Slinky Dog pair. Still, the bookend from motiv56 depicts a scene rather than recreating a specific vehicle.

Before anyone clears a shelf, a note of caution is in order. At the time of writing, no official announcement from LEGO has been cited in the reports, and the leak coverage itself warns that the designs may still change and some pieces may differ. The older 2023 project page also still carries a not-approved label, so the official reveal is the moment to watch.

Reaching 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas only earns a project a review, and it doesn’t guarantee a real set. If a project is approved, its original designer receives a 1% royalty on net sales, along with 10 copies of the final set and credit in the set materials. For a fan community that has pushed for years and seen multiple submissions rejected, that payoff would be a long time coming.
