The MCU Continues: Beloved Disney+ Series Might Get a New Season
Jeremy Renner says a second season of Hawkeye might still be on the table.
The actor, who plays Clint Barton in the MCU, previously passed on the project because he was offered far less than what he earned for the first season.
Now, speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast while promoting the fourth season of his Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown, Renner sounded hopeful about returning.
“We got to where we’re trying to do the second season,” he said. “And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.” Renner emphasized that his recovery from a near-fatal snowplow accident has made him ready to take on the role again.
He also reflected on why the first season of Hawkeye was so meaningful. “I really enjoyed doing the series version. Because it was a bit more intimate and had the family dynamic, which is always a huge part of him. I think Clint’s superpower is the human side — he’s a superpowerless superhero.”
“He’s one of the few, but I think his superpower is that sort of grit of the human condition and his loyalty and family. It’s like, otherwise, what are you fighting for? We’re fighting for that love and that loyalty of family. And so exploring that was always great. And then there’s the Christmas theme — being in New York, that was great too,” Renner said.
The actor previously explained why he initially rejected the offer for Season 2. He was asked to return for roughly half of what he made in the first season, despite the long filming schedule that could last around eight months.
Given his recent injuries, he said it would have been even more challenging to commit to the role. Renner stressed that he did not blame Marvel or Disney directly, but the decision came down to the terms of the offer.
Renner’s comments suggest that fans might still see Clint Barton on screen again. The first season’s focus on family and a more grounded, human side of a superhero made it special, and a second season could continue exploring that. Hopefully, negotiations can be worked out so the show returns stronger than ever.
