‘The Naked Gun’ Hits Paramount+ – Release Date Announced
Paramount+ has announced that the action comedy “The Naked Gun” will be available for streaming in the U.S. and Canada starting September 30.
This latest installment is the fourth film in the long-running franchise and serves as a legacy sequel to 1994’s Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.
The film stars Liam Neeson in the lead role, taking on the mantle of Lt. Frank Drebin’s son, who must follow in his father’s footsteps to save Police Squad from being shut down. Supporting roles include Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston.
Akiva Schaffer directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
“The Naked Gun” has had a long and winding development history. A fourth film was first announced in 2009 as a direct-to-TV project with Leslie Nielsen reprising his iconic role. That version was scrapped after Nielsen’s passing and the departure of the original writer. The project went through several iterations, including a 2013 reboot idea with Ed Helms, before Seth MacFarlane was brought on to develop it in 2021.
Although MacFarlane was initially set to direct, Schaffer eventually took the helm when the film was greenlit in October 2022.

Casting wrapped up in mid-2024, and filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia, beginning in May and concluding the following month. The film premiered at Manhattan’s SVA Theater on July 28, and was released theatrically in the United States on August 1. Critics responded positively, and the movie grossed $102 million worldwide on a $42 million budget.
This new release on Paramount+ offers fans of the franchise a chance to catch the latest chapter from the comfort of home. With Neeson taking on the Drebin legacy and a blend of classic humor with modern action, the film aims to entertain both longtime fans and newcomers.
