The New Live Action Scooby Doo Series Finally Reveals Its Daphne
Mckenna Grace has landed a major new role. According to reports, the 19-year-old actor has been cast as Daphne Blake in the upcoming live-action Scooby Doo series being made for Netflix.
The show is still in development and will run for eight episodes in its first season. It is being produced by Berlanti Productions along with Warner Bros. Television. The project attracted a lot of attention last year and ended up at Netflix after a competitive bidding process, as reported by entertainment outlets.
This version of Scooby Doo is not a remake of past stories. Instead, the writers are going back to the beginning. The series is written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who previously worked together on Cowboy Bebop. The story follows the group during their last summer at camp, before they officially become Mystery Inc.
The plot centers on Shaggy and Daphne, who get caught up in a strange and dark mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy. The dog may have seen something terrible, possibly even a murder that seems supernatural.
As things get more serious, they team up with a smart local girl named Velma and a confident newcomer named Fred. Together, they try to uncover the truth while dealing with secrets from their own pasts.
Appelbaum and Rosenberg will also serve as showrunners. They are executive producing alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner through Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are also executive producers under their long-running deal with Warner Bros. Television. For now, Grace is the only confirmed cast member, but more casting news is expected soon.
This role is a familiar one for Grace in a new way. She previously voiced a younger version of Daphne in the animated film Scoob from 2020. Taking on the live-action version now makes the casting feel like a full-circle moment in her career.
Grace has been busy outside of this project as well. She recently starred in the romantic drama Regretting You, based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, alongside Allison Williams. The film was released in late 2025 and showed a different side of her acting after years of horror and sci-fi roles.
Later this year, she will appear in Scream 7 as Hannah Thurman. She is also set to play Maysilee Donner in The Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping, which arrives in theaters this November. With more than 70 acting credits already, Grace continues to move quickly into leading roles at a young age.
