Anne Hathaway previously revealed that Nolan would randomly quote lines from the film to her on the set of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ a detail that first surfaced publicly through comments made by MacGruber director Jorma Taccone.

That kind of genuine enthusiasm for broad, absurdist comedy stands in stark contrast to Nolan’s own filmography, which has never included a true comedic entry despite the director expressing interest in tackling the genre at various points over the years. He has previously stated he would love to direct a comedy someday, framing his interest in exploring virtually every genre as part of his broader creative ambitions.

Coming from a filmmaker known for pulling off technically unprecedented feats like shooting ‘The Odyssey’ entirely on IMAX film, calling comedy the hardest genre to direct carries real weight, suggesting Nolan genuinely respects the craft required to consistently land a joke rather than simply viewing it as lighter fare.
