‘The Odyssey’ Trailer Sets New Record for Christopher Nolan!
The trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, has already broken records online. In just 24 hours, it was watched more than 121.4 million times across social media platforms, according to data shared with Forbes by entertainment analytics company WaveMetrix.
That number is more than double the 50 million views that Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, received in the same time frame.
The Odyssey is Nolan’s first trailer since becoming an Oscar-winning director. Oppenheimer, which earned nearly $1 billion at the box office, won seven Academy Awards in 2024, including honors for Nolan’s directing and producing. WaveMetrix reports that The Odyssey was the eighth most-viewed trailer in 24 hours this year, following highly anticipated films like The Devil Wears Prada 2, which earned more than 180 million views, and Disney remakes such as Moana and Lilo & Stitch. The trailer also became the biggest for Universal Pictures this year, surpassing Wicked: For Good, which had 113 million views in its first day.

The Odyssey is an epic action fantasy film written and directed by Nolan. It adapts Homer’s classic Greek epic and follows Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, on his long journey home after the Trojan War.
He tries to reunite with his wife, Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway. The film also stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. Nolan produces the movie with his wife, Emma Thomas, through their company Syncopy.
Nolan began writing the script in March 2024 and secured a deal with Universal Pictures by October. The project was officially announced in December, and casting continued through late 2024. Damon was confirmed in February, and filming took place from February to August in locations including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and Western Sahara. With a budget of around $250 million, it is the most expensive film Nolan has ever made and his first to be shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film.
The Odyssey is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on July 17, 2026.
