Rainn Wilson wants to bring one of DC’s funniest heroes to life. While speaking at Fan Expo Chicago on August 16, the actor told fans that he has already pitched the idea of a Plastic Man movie to James Gunn.

“I’ve hinted to James several times, like, ‘Hey man, you’ve got to do something with Plastic Man,’” Wilson said during the panel. “He’s one of my favorite DC characters, and I loved him growing up.”

Plastic Man, also known as Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, started out as a crook. After a failed robbery at a chemical plant, he gained the power to stretch his body like rubber. Instead of staying a criminal, he chose to become a superhero.

The character was first created by Jack Cole in 1941 for Quality Comics, before DC Comics picked him up in 1966.

Wilson explained that what made Plastic Man stand out to him as a kid was the comedy. “He had a wicked sense of humor,” he said. “The Plastic Man comics were very, very funny. That would be a fun one to unearth.”

The Office star said he’d love to play Plastic Man himself, but he made it clear that he would be happy just to see the character finally make it to the big screen. “I would be a fan even if I wasn’t in it,” Wilson admitted. “I would love to watch that… And play him.”

Rumors about a Plastic Man movie in the DC Universe have been floating around for more than a year, but nothing has been officially confirmed so far.
