Sandra Bullock has been a major name in Hollywood for decades, but even with all her success, there are parts of her career she looks back on with mixed feelings. In past interviews, the actress has spoken openly about both the movies she loves and the one decision she truly regrets.

Bullock broke through in the early 1990s with films like Demolition Man and Speed. Those roles turned her into a leading star almost overnight. She followed that run with movies such as The Net and A Time to Kill, proving she could handle action, drama, and everything in between.

One of her most famous roles came in 2000 with Miss Congeniality. The comedy cast Bullock as Gracie Hart, a tough FBI agent sent undercover into a beauty pageant. The movie was a huge hit and remains a fan favorite years later.

Still, Bullock has admitted that her memories of making the film are not very clear. She shared this during a 2021 interview with Netflix, explaining that her life at the time revolved almost entirely around work.

Work was my family. I was a working actor, New York City worker. You take anything that comes your way, and you just make the best of it, she said.

That film also marked an important step for her behind the scenes, as it was her first major producing job. Bullock said she felt connected to the role because it showed a different kind of female lead.

It just felt right to make that film. For those girls that didn’t have the ingénue in them, like I didn’t have the ingénue in me when I was looking at films, she explained.

Today, Miss Congeniality has taken on a new life in her own home. Bullock has joked that her daughter now loves the movie and copies some of the behavior from it.

The stuff that she repeats, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. I need to apologize to so many parents ’cause now I’m getting it back,’ she said with a laugh.

While she speaks fondly about Miss Congeniality, there is another movie she views very differently. Bullock has repeatedly said that her biggest career regret is Speed 2: Cruise Control, the 1997 sequel to her breakout hit.

She has never hidden her dislike for the film and once summed up the problem in a blunt way. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island, she said when asked about it.

Even though Speed 2 remains a sore spot, Bullock’s career overall has been incredibly strong. As of 2026, she is preparing for a major return to the big screen with Practical Magic 2, which is set for release on September 18, 2026.

There has also been talk about a possible Speed 3. While nothing is official, both Bullock and Keanu Reeves have said they would be open to it if the story makes sense and avoids past mistakes.

Alongside acting, Bullock continues to focus on her production company, Fortis Films, after taking time away from the spotlight to focus on her family.
