The Search for the Next James Bond Has Officially Started
Amazon MGM has confirmed that the search for the next James Bond actor has officially started. According to Variety, the studio said auditions are now underway as work begins on the next chapter of the famous spy franchise.
Casting director Nina Gold is reportedly leading the process. Gold is well known for her work on Game of Thrones and several Star Wars films.
In a statement shared with Variety, Amazon MGM said: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Fans have been waiting for news about the next Bond ever since Daniel Craig left the role after 2021’s No Time To Die. Interest around the franchise grew even more in February 2025 when longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli handed creative control of the series to Amazon.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos previously told The Independent that the company’s goal is to “make great movies.”
Reports from last year also suggested that director Denis Villeneuve, who is set to direct the first Bond movie under Amazon, may be looking for a lesser-known actor to take on the role of 007.
Several actors have been linked to the role over the past few years. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was once seen as a strong favorite, while names like Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi have also been mentioned by media reports.
More recently, Callum Turner has become one of the names getting attention from fans and industry watchers. Earlier this year, The Independent’s Adam White wrote: “Turner… is perfect for this. He’s yet to have a proper breakout role, but has a degree of name recognition, having worked consistently for the last decade or so.”
White also said Turner matches many of the classic Bond qualities, adding that he “looks very good in a suit.”
The next Bond film is being written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. According to reports, the movie is not expected to be released before 2028.
