‘The Simpsons Movie 2’ Reveals First Look and Lands Summer 2027 Release
Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are set to return to theaters in the long-awaited sequel to “The Simpsons Movie.”
Disney and 20th Century officially announced that the follow-up will hit cinemas on July 23, 2027, taking over a previously scheduled Marvel project that has been removed from the studio’s release calendar.
This means there will be no new Marvel movie between “Avengers: Doomsday” in December 2026 and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in December 2027.
The studio shared the first official poster for the film on Instagram, which features a classic pink donut and teases with the tagline, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.” Beyond the poster, Disney has not revealed any details about the plot.
The original “The Simpsons Movie” premiered in July 2007 and was a major hit, earning $536 million worldwide against a $75 million budget.
Directed by series veteran David Silverman, the film followed Springfield as it was trapped under a giant glass dome after Homer polluted the town’s lake. Talks of a sequel have been ongoing for years, but this marks the first time the project is officially moving forward.
Showrunner Matt Selman, speaking to Variety, credited streaming services with helping the series remain relevant. “Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever,” Selman said. “Being on Disney+ has been somewhat rejuvenating for us. Not that we realized we needed rejuvenation, but we appreciate it.”
Fans can expect the familiar humor and charm of Springfield when the family returns in 2027, marking two decades since their first big-screen adventure. The announcement has sparked excitement online as audiences look forward to seeing the Simpson family back in theaters.
This sequel seems like a smart move for Disney, tapping into nostalgia while also introducing the characters to a new generation through streaming. What do you think about “The Simpsons Movie 2”? Share your thoughts in the comments.
