‘The Strangers: Chapter 2’ Trailer Arrives – Maya’s Nightmare Is Far from Over
Madelaine Petsch returns in The Strangers: Chapter 2, and this time, the terror follows her into a hospital. After surviving a brutal attack in the first film, her character, Maya, finds no safety in what should be a place of healing. A new trailer shows that the nightmare is far from over, with the masked killers coming back to finish what they started.
The film is set to hit theaters on September 26, 2025. It continues right after the events of the first chapter and is part of a trilogy directed by Renny Harlin. Harlin, best known for directing A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, shot all three chapters in Slovakia back in 2022. Originally, the plan was to release them all in the same year, but only the first has been released so far. Chapter 3 does not have a release date yet.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 brings back Petsch as Maya, with Gabriel Basso joining the cast as Gregory and Ema Horvath playing Shelly, a waitress. The film is the fourth in the overall Strangers series and the second in Harlin’s new trilogy, which is a fresh take on the 2008 horror movie about a random and violent home invasion.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2023, Harlin said the first chapter stayed close to the original film, but the sequels would dig deeper. “I wanted to explore what happens to the victims of this kind of violence and who the perpetrators are of this kind of violence. Where are they coming from and why?” he said.

Still, the trailer hints that not everything will be explained. “There really doesn’t have to be a ‘why’—after all, isn’t it scarier that way?” the trailer teases. The movie seems to lean into that mystery and fear, rather than giving the audience easy answers.
The release date for this sequel shifted after Saw XI was cancelled, allowing The Strangers: Chapter 2 to take its place in the fall schedule. The movie follows Maya during four days after the first attack, suggesting more tension and danger ahead.
In my opinion, this new chapter looks like it’s going to push the story in a more intense direction, while keeping the original’s creepy, no-reason-needed style of horror. If the trailer is anything to go by, fans of slasher films are in for another wild ride.
