The Ultimate Cost of 18+ Scenes? ‘Off Campus’ Star Mika Abdalla Calls Off Engagement!
According to reporting from PEOPLE and statements provided by representatives for the actress, Off Campus star Mika Abdalla and actor Jake Short have ended their engagement and are no longer together.
News of the split was confirmed after growing public interest in Abdalla’s personal life. A representative for the actress shared a statement explaining the situation and asking for privacy as both move forward separately.
The representative said, “Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together.” The statement also noted that the former couple remain supportive of one another. “They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
Abdalla, 26, and Short, 29, were together for around four years. Their relationship began after they met while working on the 2022 Hulu comedy Sex Appeal. In the film, the two actors played romantic interests on screen, but their connection eventually developed off camera as well.
In previous interviews, Abdalla spoke warmly about their first meeting. During an appearance on The American High Podcast in 2024, she recalled arriving in Syracuse, New York, where the movie was being filmed. She remembered approaching Short to introduce herself and said they ended up spending hours talking together.
She explained, “I came over just to say hi and we ended up talking — not about the script, just talking and getting to know each other for hours.”
Their friendship quickly grew while working on the film. Abdalla later shared that they spent time reviewing the script together and getting to know each other during production. Over time, the relationship became serious and fans began following their journey closely on social media and through interviews.
Talk of an engagement first gained attention in 2024 when Short jokingly proposed to Abdalla during a podcast appearance. While the moment was lighthearted, engagement rumors continued to grow in the months that followed. In 2025, Short’s manager appeared to confirm the engagement in an Instagram post celebrating the couple and their future together.
Despite public speculation, neither Abdalla nor Short had spoken in detail about their engagement before the breakup became public.

The announcement comes as Abdalla continues working on the second season of Off Campus. The series, based on the popular novels by Elle Kennedy, has helped introduce her to a larger audience. In the upcoming season, her character Allie will continue her complicated relationship with Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn.
Speaking recently about the new season, Abdalla explained that both characters enter the next chapter carrying emotional baggage from past experiences. She said, “Both of these people’s fears and insecurities have just been reinforced.” She added that the relationship begins from a difficult place and that both characters have personal work to do before moving forward.
For now, both Abdalla and Short appear focused on their individual careers. While their relationship has come to an end, the statement from Abdalla’s representative makes it clear that there is no public conflict between them. Instead, they are choosing to move forward separately while maintaining mutual respect and support for one another.
