Few TV partnerships have lasted as long as Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. Their story began back in 2010 with ‘The Walking Dead’, and it has continued through the spinoff that now bears Daryl’s name. As the final season of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ approaches, the weight of that history is hard to ignore.

The franchise has already said goodbye once. The original ‘The Walking Dead’ ended in 2022 after 11 seasons, but AMC kept the zombie universe alive through spinoffs centered on familiar characters. Norman Reedus has played Daryl for 15 years, and Melissa McBride has been right beside him as Carol.

That long journey now has an end date. AMC has released the first official teaser trailer for the fourth and final season of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’, and confirmed that it premieres in February 2027 on AMC and AMC+. The 1 minute and 30 second teaser debuted around the show’s New York Comic Con 2026 panel.

The footage leans heavily on emotion. It reflects on Daryl and Carol’s 15-year friendship, reminding viewers how far the pair have come. The official tagline promises that their fight to find home reaches its last chapter, with every battle and sacrifice leading to this point.

The story picks up in Spain, where the previous season left off. According to the season’s synopsis, Daryl and Carol cross the ravaged badlands of the country while holding onto hope and each other, even as uncertainty grows about their future. The overall arc of the series has been about their effort to get home to the people they love.

The spinoff’s path has taken the pair across Europe. The second season, subtitled ‘The Book of Carol’, reunited them, and the third season moved their journey to Spain. The final season continues in the same landscape, with production taking place in and around Madrid and locations including Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucía, the Segovia region and Toledo.

Fans have waited a while for this update. Season 4 was originally intended to arrive in 2026, following ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’, but an unexpected delay pushed it back to 2027. The announcement of a firm February window ends months of speculation.

The season also adds a notable new cast member. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jimmy Smits joins the final season. AMC announced in July 2025 at San Diego Comic-Con that the show would end with its fourth season and that the final run would consist of eight episodes.

When the final season was announced, Reedus framed the ending as a celebration rather than a goodbye. In an AMC statement, he thanked fans for riding along with the show and added that “Daryl’s journey is far from over.” The line has fueled hope that the character may return in some form.

McBride, for her part, called shooting this part of Daryl and Carol’s adventure in Europe the thrill of a lifetime. She said she keeps coming back for more of these two characters. That sentiment fits with the emotional tone of the teaser.

AMC has also announced a treat for newcomers and longtime fans alike. All seasons of the original ‘The Walking Dead’ will join the spinoff in streaming on AMC+ starting January 7. That gives viewers a chance to revisit the full story before the final season arrives.

The news also does not mean the end of the franchise. ‘Daryl Dixon’ is ending, but the wider ‘Walking Dead’ universe is still going. For now, the focus is on giving this particular chapter a proper send-off.

For many viewers, Daryl and Carol are the heart of the entire franchise. Their bond has survived the loss of the original series’ world and the move to a new continent. Seeing it reach a conclusion in Spain feels like a natural, if bittersweet, destination.

With a February 2027 premiere locked in, the countdown has begun. The teaser has already reminded fans why they care so much about these two survivors. Whether the finale delivers a hopeful ending or a heartbreaking one remains to be seen.
