“The Walking Dead: Dead City” Season 3 Finally Gets Release Date and First Teaser
AMC has officially confirmed the return date for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3. The zombie drama will premiere on July 26, bringing Maggie and Negan back to New York for another chapter in the growing spin-off series.
The announcement came alongside the release of a new teaser trailer, giving fans an early look at what appears to be one of the strangest seasons in the franchise so far. According to AMC and new details shared by Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming episodes will take the story in a very unexpected direction.
Season 3 continues to follow Maggie and Negan as they attempt to build stability in Manhattan after years of violence and survival. The new storyline focuses on the pair trying to create the first successful community in the city since the apocalypse began. However, the situation quickly starts to spiral again as new chaos spreads through New York.
The official season description hints that both characters will once again be forced to confront their past mistakes. “Maggie and Negan finally put aside their differences to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse, but when chaos in the city begins to arise, they are forced to question: have they learned from their old wounds or will their dark past spell doom for the entire city?”
Entertainment Weekly also revealed new details about a major episode that has already sparked attention online. According to the outlet, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan filmed an alternate reality-style episode set in a very different version of New York City.
The publication described one preview scene as noticeably strange compared to the usual tone of the series. The streets appear unusually clean, random civilians casually walk around without fear, and Negan is shown dressed entirely in black while wearing an ankle monitor. Most noticeably, there are no zombies visible in the scene at all.
Entertainment Weekly questioned the bizarre setup directly in its preview, asking, “Why is Morgan’s Negan — clad in black from beanie-wearing head to boot-wearing toe — also sporting an ankle monitor? How come the streets seem so clean? Why is that random couple who look like they stepped out of an Old Navy catalog just strolling down the street all nonchalant? AND WHERE ARE ALL THE ZOMBIES?!”
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan return as Negan and Maggie, with several supporting cast members also coming back for the new season. The cast includes Gaius Charles, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, Keir Gilchrist, Aimee Garcia, and Jimmi Simpson. Actor Raúl Castillo has also joined the series for Season 3.

Seth Hoffman, who previously worked on The Walking Dead and Prison Break, serves as the new showrunner for the upcoming season.
With the teaser already creating speculation around the alternate reality episode and the future of Manhattan, Season 3 looks set to push Dead City into even stranger territory when it returns this summer.
