This week’s watchlist mixes fresh Summer 2025 premieres with heavy-hitting returns and long-running fan favorites. From supernatural throwdowns to post-apocalyptic science and kaiju defense, there’s a little bit of everything pulsing through the simulcast schedule.

Studio Hibari animates the adaptation with Ato Nonaka directing, Yukie Sugawara on series composition, character designs by Ryoko Amisaki (also chief animation director), and a score by Kohta Yamamoto; cast features Kazuki Ura (Shiki), Hiroshi Kamiya (Naito), and Kōtarō Nishiyama (Jin).

Kinema Citrus leads animation (DR Movie joined S2), with direction by Takao Abo (S1), Masato Jinbo (S2–S3), and Hitoshi Haga (S4). Keigo Koyanagi handles series composition; music is by Kevin Penkin (with additional composers joining in S3–S4). The main cast includes Kaito Ishikawa (Naofumi), Asami Seto (Raphtalia), and Rina Hidaka (Filo).

Dark-fantasy series ‘Clevatess’ centers on a demon king who destroys a kingdom, then unexpectedly adopts a royal baby and resurrects a fallen hero, Alicia, to help care for the child—using the journey to examine humanity up close. The TV anime adapts Yūji Iwahara’s manga (serialized on LINE Manga/Comic Alive+).

Lay-duce produces the adaptation, directed by Kiyotaka Taguchi with series composition by Keigo Koyanagi, character designs by Sōichirō Sako, and music by Nobuaki Nobusawa. The show premiered on July 2, 2025, and streams internationally; additional staff details and promotional updates were revealed ahead of launch.

Production I.G animates the series with Studio Khara supervising kaiju designs; it’s directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya, scripts by Ichirō Ōkouchi, character designs by Tetsuya Nishio, and music by Yuta Bandoh. The cast features Masaya Fukunishi (Kafka), Asami Seto (Mina Ashiro), Wataru Katō (Reno Ichikawa), Fairouz Ai (Kikoru Shinomiya), and Kengo Kawanishi (Soshiro Hoshina).

The anime adapts Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andō’s hit manga from ‘Weekly Shōnen Magazine’, premiering globally in Summer 2025.

The production comes from Bones (Bones Film), with Fumihiko Suganuma directing, series composition by Hiroshi Seko, character designs by Satoshi Ishino, and music by Taku Iwasaki. Cast includes Aoi Ichikawa as Rudo and Katsuyuki Konishi as Enjin; Crunchyroll streams the series as it airs.

TMS Entertainment produces the series with Shinya Iino directing, scripts by Yuichiro Kido, and character designs by Yuko Iwasa; music is by Tatsuya Katō, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and Yuki Kanesaka. The Japanese cast stars Yūsuke Kobayashi (Senku), Manami Numakura (Kohaku), Gen Satō (Chrome), Kengo Kawanishi (Gen Asagiri), and more, with worldwide streaming outside Asia handled by Crunchyroll.

The anime adapts Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga from Shonen Jump+ and retains the story’s blend of occult mayhem and sci-fi hijinks.

Science SARU animates the series. Season staff highlights include directors Fuga Yamashiro (with Abel Góngora also credited), series scripts by Hiroshi Seko, character designs by Naoyuki Onda, and music by kensuke ushio. The principal cast features Shion Wakayama (Momo), Natsuki Hanae (Okarun), Nana Mizuki (Seiko), Ayane Sakura (Aira), Kaito Ishikawa (Jiji), and Mayumi Tanaka (Turbo Granny).

Set in another world where a reincarnated young man masters water magic and slowly steps into adventuring life, ‘The Water Magician’ follows Ryō as his training in Rondo Forest pulls him into encounters with dragons, fairies, and city-state intrigue. The anime is adapted from Tadashi Kubō’s light novel series, which began on Shōsetsuka ni Narō before moving to TO Books with manga spin-offs launching under Comic Corona/Corona EX.

The TV adaptation is produced by Typhoon Graphics and Wonderland, directed by Hideyuki Satake with scripts by Jun Kumagai, character designs by Yūka Kozutsumi, and music by Akira Kosemura and Sayaka Aoki. Voice cast includes Ayumu Murase as Ryō, with additional roles from Kaede Hondo, Takehito Koyasu, and Hōchū Ōtsuka; the series began airing in July 2025 and is streamed internationally.
