‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 Moves to a Stunning New Filming Location, Sources Say
HBO’s hit anthology series “The White Lotus” is heading to the French Riviera for its fourth season, Variety reports.
Creator Mike White is still working on the scripts, but production is set to begin at the end of April and continue through October. Filming will take place at multiple locations, with the main backdrop being the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez, a 19th-century palace turned luxury hotel.
The Château sits on 32 acres filled with parasol pines, cypress trees, and jasmine, and is part of the Airelles Collection, a group of five-star hotels owned by Stephane Courbit, founder of Banijay Group. Suites at the property range from $3,000 to $8,000 per night and feature amenities like a spa, private beach access, and a children’s camp. HBO has not commented on the series’ move to France.
The story will follow the show’s familiar format of exploring a group of hotel guests and employees over a single week, but with a fresh French setting. Sources suggest that the upcoming season could include the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 13 to 26, making it a likely part of the storyline. White is known for mixing multiple locations for his seasons, so the Château de La Messardière will be just one of several filming spots. Some scenes will also be shot at a Paris hotel.
Casting for Season 4 is underway, with many French actors auditioning. So far, Alexander Ludwig, known for “Vikings” and “Earth Abides,” and AJ Michalka, from “The Goldbergs” and “Super 8,” are the first new cast members confirmed. Returning cast members include Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid, Natasha Rothwell as Belinda Lindsey, and Jon Gries as Greg Hunt, all of whom have appeared in previous seasons.
“The White Lotus” gained acclaim for its sharp writing, dark humor, and social commentary, winning 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, and two Golden Globes. Jennifer Coolidge has received multiple Emmys and a Golden Globe for her performances, while Murray Bartlett and Mike White have also earned Emmy wins for acting, writing, and directing.
The show debuted on HBO on July 11, 2021, and has since released three seasons set in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, respectively. Season 3, filmed in Thailand, featured Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Sam Rockwell, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, and Patrick Schwarzenegger, earning eight acting Emmy nominations.
White remains deeply involved in every aspect of the series, serving as writer, director, and executive producer alongside David Bernad and Mark Kamine. Each season of “The White Lotus” is largely self-contained but occasionally brings back fan-favorite characters to connect the stories.
The show focuses on the interactions between wealthy guests and hotel staff, gradually revealing darker and more complex undercurrents beneath the luxurious settings.
Fans can expect the same mix of drama, humor, and social critique in the upcoming French season. With production set in Saint-Tropez and Paris, the new episodes promise to capture the glamour and tension of the Riviera.
