George R. R. Martin built one of the most detailed fantasy worlds ever, and fans are still discovering new parts of it.

A recently shared map of Westeros has gone viral online, showing just how large and complex that world really is.

The fan-made map spread quickly on X and gained hundreds of thousands of views. Even though it was not created by Martin himself, many fans were impressed by how much information it includes. It shows not only the well-known houses but also many smaller families that are often overlooked.

The map has become especially useful for viewers following the new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It helps them understand where different houses are located and how they connect to each other. Some fans reacted with surprise when they saw how many families exist in the story. One person wrote, “George RR Martin is a genius, and we need to hand it to him for creating all of this.” Another said they often forget how big the world is because every house has its own background.

Several specific places shown on the map have caught attention. Locations like Ashford Meadow are important to the story, as they are tied to major events. The map also highlights houses like Ashford and Fossoway. Some viewers noticed an unusual detail about the Fossoway lands. Their territories are split into two separate areas that do not connect. One fan asked, “It’s interesting (that) the two Fossoway territories don’t border each other. (Does) anyone know the history behind that?” This detail comes from a past conflict within the family, which caused them to divide.

While some major houses appear, others are mostly absent from this part of the story. The Stark family, for example, plays a smaller role here. However, Martin has hinted that future stories could focus on them again. He said, “I began writing two at various points in the past year. One is set in Winterfell, and one is set in the Riverlands.” One planned story, The She-Wolves of Winterfell, is expected to explore the lives of women in the Stark family.

The popularity of this map shows how much fans still care about the world Martin created. Even years after the original books and shows, people are still exploring new details and asking questions about the history behind each house.

This is what makes this series stand out from others. The world feels real because of how much detail it has. Even small families have stories, which keeps fans interested for a long time.
