Tig Notaro Teams Up with Zack Snyder for New “Hot Lesbian Action” Film
Tig Notaro says she and filmmaker Zack Snyder are developing a new movie together, and it started from an unexpected moment in her career.
During her appearance on the Dec. 1 episode of the podcast “On With Kara Swisher,” she looked back on her experience joining Snyder’s action movie “Army of the Dead” in 2021. Notaro stepped into the film late in production, replacing Chris D’Elia, and she explained that the reaction to her performance took her by surprise.
While talking about how viewers responded to her character, Notaro shared that she suddenly became an online sensation.
She explained that people kept telling her they found her attractive in the movie, something she had not expected at all. “I go viral for being sexy in this film,” she said. “My phone’s exploding… I was so confused.” She even called Snyder to tell him that people of all genders were commenting on her appearance. “I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women and straight women,” she told him.
That huge reaction sparked an idea for a new movie, which she pitched directly to Snyder. According to Notaro, the concept was simple and bold.
“What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?” she told him. Snyder immediately loved it, and that was enough to get the two of them working on a script. She described the early pitch with a joke, saying the imagined movie poster would show the title and the words “Hot Lesbian Action.”
Notaro also revealed that the project already has a working title. She said the film is currently called “Deviants” and takes place in an older period setting, focusing on characters hiding who they really are. She described it as a story about “closeted deviants,” hinting at a mix of humor and drama.
