Timothée Chalamet Reportedly in Talks to Star in James Mangold’s Upcoming Heist Thriller
There’s been increasing talk about a new project called High Side, and it could bring Timothée Chalamet and director James Mangold back together. The two recently worked on A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that scored eight Oscar nominations, and now word is they might team up again.
According to industry sources, High Side is based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, and the pitch is already making waves both in Hollywood and in publishing circles. Chernin Entertainment is producing, and Sugar23, who represents Oliveira, is shopping the project around.
High Side tells the story of Billy, a former MotoGP racer whose career ended after a brutal crash. Billy carries the weight of a family history full of abandonment. After stepping away from the track, he’s been looking after his addict father and running the family garage. But everything changes when his estranged brother Cole shows up,right after their father’s death, with a dangerous idea.
Cole, already on the FBI’s radar, wants Billy to join him in a string of high-speed bank robberies. The plan is bold: rob banks using superbikes. Billy’s natural skill as a motocross rider makes him perfect for the job, even if it means diving back into the world of extreme risks. Cole pulls together a small, mismatched crew, which includes a woman who becomes romantically involved with Billy. Together, they start hitting small-town desert banks, getting in and out with precision and speed.
As they set their sights on an even bigger job—a bank robbery timed perfectly with a massive motorcycle parade—the danger grows. The FBI is closing in, led by agent Lennox, who shares a complicated past with Cole. The chase builds toward a high-octane finale packed with both intense action and emotional turns.
Chalamet, if he signs on, would be taking on a role that mixes adrenaline-pumping stunts with deep character drama. The actor already has a packed schedule. He’s set to return as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, which will conclude the trilogy, and he’s currently in post-production on Marty Supreme.
Mangold, known for his ability to blend emotion and action, has a strong track record with thrillers, and Chalamet’s star power has only been growing. While no official deal has been announced yet, insiders say the project has all the right elements to become something big.
If this comes together, fans can expect a high-speed ride that blends the thrill of a heist movie with the emotional pull of a family drama.
