‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’ has spent months building anticipation around one particular mystery, and it has nothing to do with Peter Parker’s next villain. Marvel and Sony have kept Sadie Sink’s role in the film almost entirely under wraps, refusing to confirm her character even as speculation has swirled for months about who exactly she might be playing.

That secrecy has only grown louder as the film’s late July release date approaches, with the studios reportedly borrowing the same playbook they used ahead of ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’, where major plot details stayed hidden until audiences saw the movie for themselves. Sink herself has said she was not even given a script until she arrived in London for filming, and fans have spent the time since largely convinced she could be playing a young version of the X-Men character Jean Grey, though nothing has been confirmed.

Now Tom Holland himself has weighed in on just how good her performance actually is. Speaking with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff for Noovie’s Close Up, Holland was asked which performances in the film fans are not ready for, and he immediately pointed to Sink alongside costar Zendaya.

Holland told Collider that there are two standout moments in the film, starting with Sink’s, saying she “handled the pressure of the character that she’s playing with such grace, and the third act, she steals the movie. It is so good.”

Holland did not stop there, also singling out a scene involving Zendaya that he described as one of the best he has ever been a part of, though he was careful to note that both moments count as major spoilers he could not elaborate on further. His costar Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle in the film, echoed that praise for Zendaya during the same conversation, describing her as an actor who immediately grounds a scene and makes everything around her feel honest.

The interview also touched on the evolving dynamic between Holland’s Peter Parker and Bernthal’s Frank Castle, with Holland explaining that their relationship shifted during production into something warmer than originally scripted. He credited that shift partly to his real-life friendship with Bernthal, along with director Destin Daniel Cretton giving the two actors room to improvise scenes together rather than sticking rigidly to the page.

Sink joins a cast that also includes Zendaya as Michelle Jones, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Mark Ruffalo returning as Bruce Banner, and Tramell Tillman and Michael Mando rounding out the ensemble. The film marks the fourth installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man series following ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’, with Sony and Marvel continuing to treat Sink’s exact role as one of the more closely guarded secrets in the franchise’s history.

The mystery surrounding her casting stretches back to March, when Sink was first confirmed to have joined the film in an undisclosed role. Reports since have noted that she was offered the part without an audition, having previously worked with director Destin Daniel Cretton on 2017’s ‘The Glass Castle’, which appears to have given the filmmaker enough confidence in her to bring her aboard sight unseen.

Who do you think Sadie Sink is playing in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?

‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’ opens in theaters on July 31, giving fans just a couple more weeks to speculate before Holland’s teased third act reveal finally answers who Sink is actually playing. Until then, the actor’s comments have only added fuel to a guessing game that has already dominated the film’s promotional cycle for months.
