Tom Holland Responds to James Bond Role: “I Already Consider Myself the Luckiest Kid Alive
Tom Holland has finally spoken about the rumors linking him to the role of James Bond. And while he hasn’t confirmed it, he’s not exactly saying no either.
For years, news about the next Bond movie, often called Bond 26, has been slow. But this year, a lot has changed. Longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have stepped aside. Amazon now has full creative control of the franchise. The new film will be produced by David Heyman and Amy Pascal. Pascal has worked with Holland before on the Spider-Man movies and also produced Casino Royale.
The next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker behind Dune and Prisoners. Steven Knight, who created Peaky Blinders, is writing the script.
Holland’s name showed up on a rumored “wishlist” of possible new Bonds. In a recent YouTube cooking video with Gordon Ramsay, the chef teased him by asking if “James” would be part of any of his upcoming projects. Holland smiled and said, “There’s speculation at the minute, we’ll keep it to a minimum for now… we’ll get there one day.”
Ramsay then asked how he would feel about playing the famous spy. Holland replied, “Every young British actor, it’s the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could have never have dreamed to have the career I’ve had.”
This isn’t the first time Holland has thought about Bond. In an earlier interview with Total Film via Variety, he revealed that he once pitched an idea for a “young Bond” film. “I had a meeting, after or during [Spider-Man: Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with,” he said. “It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate [was] particularly interested.”
Right now, there’s no confirmed release date, title, or actor for Bond 26. Daniel Craig’s final film as the superspy, No Time To Die, came out in 2021, and since then there’s been constant talk about who will wear the tuxedo next. Actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson have been mentioned, but nothing is official.
With Villeneuve directing and Knight writing, fans are curious, and maybe a little nervous, about Amazon’s control over the beloved series. But with this creative team, the next James Bond movie could be one to watch. And if Tom Holland is really in the running, he seems ready for it.
