Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” giving fans a closer look at Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker and showing that the young hero will face some serious problems when the movie arrives in theaters.

The upcoming Marvel and Sony film continues the story after the events of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie takes place four years after Peter Parker made the difficult decision to erase himself from the memories of everyone he loves. Now, he is completely alone and trying to protect New York City without anyone knowing who he really is.

Peter has dedicated his life to being Spider-Man, but the pressure of constantly fighting crime begins to affect him in unexpected ways. His powers start changing, creating a new danger for the hero while he investigates a mysterious series of crimes connected to a powerful new threat.

The latest trailer shows Peter struggling with his responsibilities as Spider-Man while dealing with the consequences of his past choices. The footage also teases a major battle with Hulk, with Peter appearing to lose control as his powers continue to evolve.

Along with Holland returning as Spider-Man, several familiar faces are coming back for the new movie. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, while Jacob Batalon returns as Ned Leeds. The cast also includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Michael Mando.

The film will also introduce several new characters played by Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin Jones III.

One of the biggest emotional moments teased so far involves Peter seeing that MJ has moved on with her life after forgetting him. Footage shown during CinemaCon revealed that MJ has a new love interest, forcing Peter to accept that he may no longer have a place in her world.

Despite the challenges facing the character, excitement for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remains extremely high. The previous trailer for the movie became a major online success, reportedly becoming the first movie trailer to reach one billion views. It crossed that milestone just four days after release, following more than 718 million views in its first 24 hours.

Sony chairman Tom Rothman also praised the upcoming film during CinemaCon, saying that it feels different from previous Spider-Man movies while still carrying the same excitement fans expect.

“It’s as big as anything we’ve ever made, and yet it feels like nothing we’ve ever made,” Rothman said. “And it has Tom Holland — and I can say this because I’ve seen the movie — in his finest performance.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with Justin Kuritzkes also contributing to the script. Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige are producing the project.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31 and will serve as the next major chapter for Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Peter Parker facing new enemies, changing powers, and a completely different life, the film looks set to take the character in a new direction.
