Actor Micheal Ward, known for his breakout roles in Top Boy, Small Axe, and Blue Story, has been charged with multiple serious offences, including rape and se**** assault. The 27-year-old Bafta winner is now facing five charges tied to one woman, following an investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police.

Ward, who lives in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of s***** assault. The charges relate to an alleged incident that happened in January 2023.

In a statement shared by the actor, Ward said he completely denies the accusations. “I deny the charges against me entirely,” he said. He also added that he has worked with the police during their investigation and is confident the truth will come out. “I have co-operated with police fully throughout their investigation and have full faith it will lead to my name being cleared.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges and said their specialist officers are offering support to the woman who reported the incident. Detective Superintendent Scott Ware said, “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward — we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports.”

Catherine Baccas from the Crown Prosecution Service also released a statement explaining why the charges were brought forward. “Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Micheal Ward, 27, with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of s***** assault against a woman in January 2023.”

She also reminded the public that Ward is entitled to a fair trial. “It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” Baccas added.

Ward is expected to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in London on August 28.

The Jamaican-born actor rose to fame with Blue Story in 2019 and won the Rising Star award at the Baftas the following year.

He went on to star as Jamie in Netflix’s Top Boy and received more recognition for his role in Small Axe, which earned him a Bafta nomination. Ward also appeared in Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light and will soon be seen in the upcoming film Eddington, set to release in the UK on August 22.
