[Trailer] A24’s ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’ Unleashes Rose Byrne’s Most Intense Role Yet
The first trailer for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You has been released, offering a glimpse at a tense and emotional drama from writer‑director Mary Bronstein. The film stars Rose Byrne in what critics are already calling one of her most powerful performances.
The story follows Linda, a woman whose life is falling apart as she tries to cope with her child’s mysterious illness, her husband’s absence, a missing person, and a therapist relationship that is turning more hostile by the day.

Joining Byrne in the cast are Conan O’Brien as Linda’s therapist, Danielle Macdonald as a troubled mother who abandons her newborn baby, ASAP Rocky as a motel superintendent, Christian Slater as the voice of Linda’s missing husband, Ivy Wolk as a motel clerk, and Delaney Quinn as Linda’s terminally ill daughter.
The film also features appearances from Daniel Zolghadri, Ronald Bronstein, Lark White, Josh Pais, and Helen Hong.
Filming began in August 2023 in Montauk, New York, after the project received an interim agreement to shoot during the SAG‑AFTRA strike.
The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2025, where it was praised for its intense emotional depth.
It later screened in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where Byrne won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance. It will also play at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and the New York Film Festival later in the year.
Critics have already responded warmly. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of reviews are positive, with an average score of 8.0/10. The site’s consensus says, “Liable to leave audiences in a cold sweat, this fever dream immersion into parental stress connects with thunderous force thanks to Rose Byrne’s gutsy star turn and director Mary Bronstein’s uncompromising vision.” Metacritic lists it with a score of 81 out of 100, signaling universal acclaim.
If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, by A24. The newly released trailer sets the tone for what looks like one of the year’s most emotionally charged dramas.
