A Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie may finally be getting closer to becoming real. After years of rumors and teasing, new updates from Paramount and the people behind the franchises suggest the project is still alive and moving forward.

According to IGN, Paramount confirmed during CinemaCon 2026 that both a new Transformers movie and a new G.I. Joe movie are currently in development. While the studio did not reveal exact details about either project, the announcement immediately sparked more speculation about the long-awaited crossover between the two Hasbro franchises.

The crossover was first teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts back in 2023. In the final scene, Anthony Ramos’ character Noah is approached about joining G.I. Joe after helping save Earth from Unicron and the Terrorcons. Fans expected the setup would quickly lead into a shared universe movie, but there had been very little news since then.

Now, Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. has shared a fresh update with ScreenRant. Even though he confirmed he is not directing the next Transformers movie, he said the crossover idea is still being worked on behind the scenes.

He told the outlet, “I do. I still do have big plans for what that could be, but we’ll have to see. We’ll have to see what comes about it. I am not part of the next Transformers film, but it’s still in development and there’s still time, so you just never know.”

The Transformers franchise has remained one of Paramount’s biggest brands since Michael Bay launched the live-action series in 2007. Several movies crossed huge box office milestones, including Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction, which both made over $1 billion worldwide. More recent entries like Bumblebee and Transformers One earned stronger reviews from critics, although Transformers One struggled financially in theaters.

The G.I. Joe franchise has had a more uneven run. The Rise of Cobra and Retaliation performed fairly well at the box office, but Snake Eyes became a major disappointment after its 2021 release. Because of that, Paramount may be looking for a fresh direction before bringing the two worlds together.

Reports from Deadline previously claimed that different G.I. Joe projects were being developed, including scripts connected to writers Danny McBride and Max Landis. However, Variety later reported that Paramount and Hasbro were no longer moving ahead with Landis’ version.

At the moment, it sounds like the next Transformers and G.I. Joe movies will likely focus on rebuilding their own franchises first. Still, with both new films officially in development and Caple confirming the crossover remains active, the chances of seeing Autobots fighting alongside G.I. Joe now seem stronger than they have in years.
