This is not the first time Scott and Nolan have worked together. They previously collaborated on Nolan’s 2020 film Tenet, where Scott recorded the song The Plan for the soundtrack. In a 2020 interview with GQ, Nolan praised Scott’s creative input, saying his voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle. He also added that Scott’s insights into the musical and narrative mechanism Ludwig Göransson and I were building were immediate, insightful and profound.
The Odyssey is already drawing attention for its massive cast. Matt Damon leads the film as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Elliot Page also appearing. The film is based on the classic Greek story and is shaping up to be one of Nolan’s biggest projects yet.
The movie is also making history behind the scenes. According to information shared with Empire Magazine, The Odyssey is the first narrative film shot entirely using IMAX cameras. This became possible thanks to a newly developed film casing called a blimp, which reduces the loud noise made by IMAX cameras. This allows actors to perform quiet scenes without sound issues.
Nolan explained why this new technology matters in an interview with Empire, calling it a game-changer. He said you can be shooting a foot from an actor’s face while they’re whispering and get usable sound. What that opens up are intimate moments of performance on the world’s most beautiful format.
