President Donald Trump made headlines on Monday by blaming the late director Rob Reiner for his own death. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Reiner’s death was connected to what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Trump wrote, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday. Multiple reports confirmed that both had suffered stab wounds. While the Los Angeles Police Department initially did not identify the victims, a family spokesperson later confirmed their deaths.

The spokesperson said, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death. Records show that one of the couple’s children, Nick Reiner, is in custody and being held on $4 million bail.

Rob Reiner was well known for his outspoken political views as a Democrat and activist. He had been a vocal critic of Trump in the past. In 2017, Reiner called Trump “mentally unfit” to serve as president, telling Variety, “Donald Trump is the single-most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States. Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works.”

Ahead of the 2024 election, Reiner warned about the risks of another Trump term. He said in an interview with The Guardian, “The question at this election is: Do we want to continue 249 years of self-rule and American democracy? Or do we want to turn it over to somebody like Donald Trump, who has said that he wants to destroy the constitution, go after his political enemies and turn America into an autocracy?”

Trump’s statements blaming Reiner for his own death have drawn attention for their controversial nature.
