President Trump has officially announced that he will not be attending the 2026 Super Bowl in San Francisco. Speaking to The Post during an exclusive interview held in the Oval Office, the president revealed his deep dissatisfaction with the musical acts chosen for the halftime show on February 8.

He specifically called out Latin rap star Bad Bunny and the rock band Green Day as the reasons for his frustration, noting that both acts have been vocal critics of his administration.

The president was very direct about his feelings regarding the NFL’s selection for the championship game. I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible, Trump said during the interview. While he made his dislike for the performers clear, he claimed the primary reason for his absence is the travel distance to the West Coast rather than a boycott of the musicians.

Trump explained that the flight to California is simply too long for his current schedule, though he noted that he has always felt welcomed at these events in the past. It’s just too far away. I would. I’ve [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me, he told the outlet. He further added that he would consider going if the trip was a bit shorter.

The tension between the president and the performers is rooted in their very public political disagreements. Bad Bunny, a massive global star from Puerto Rico, famously mocked the president in his song Nuevayol by using an imitation of Trump’s voice to apologize to immigrants.

Meanwhile, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently doubled down on his opposition to the president by supporting protesters in Minnesota. I’m not a part of a redneck agenda. I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda, Armstrong said last week.

This decision marks a change from last year when Trump attended the game in New Orleans. That matchup saw the Philadelphia Eagles take down the Kansas City Chiefs, a team famously supported by Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

While the president enjoyed the spectacle in Louisiana, it seems the combination of a long flight to San Francisco and a lineup of political rivals has kept him away from the stadium this time around.

The Super Bowl remains the most-watched television event in America, drawing over 120 million viewers annually. The 2026 game at Levi’s Stadium is expected to be a massive security undertaking given the presence of high-profile critics of the current administration. As for the halftime show, Bad Bunny and Green Day are expected to perform a collaborative set that many industry insiders believe will include several political messages directed at the White House.

Do you think the president’s decision to skip the game because of the “too far” distance is a genuine scheduling issue, or do you believe the halftime show lineup played a bigger role in his choice to stay in D.C.? Share your thoughts in the comments.
