Two Queens, One Photo Op: Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy Steal the ‘Dune: Part Three’ Spotlight
Few film campaigns have run as long or looked as good as the one for ‘Dune: Part Three’. Between trailer events in Los Angeles, IMAX fan screenings and a steady stream of character posters, Warner Bros. has been drip-feeding fans for months, and the press tour is now in full swing.
The stakes are high. Denis Villeneuve’s final ‘Dune’ chapter opens on December 18, the same day as Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, a head-to-head clash fans have nicknamed “Dunesday.”
That pressure has made every public appearance matter, and the latest round of press photos has already caught fans’ attention. Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy appeared together for ‘Dune: Part Three’ press, and the pair’s contrasting looks quickly became the talking point.

The styling couldn’t have been more different. Pugh wore a sharp, structured gray coat, while Taylor-Joy chose an elegant ivory gown. Side by side, the tailored charcoal and soft cream made for a striking pairing.
Both stars looked relaxed and in good spirits, laughing as the cameras clicked. Taylor-Joy’s long, pale hair and Pugh’s sleek ponytail added to the contrast.
Zendaya was also on hand for the same press, which gave fans another reason to circulate the images. Each of the three actresses plays a pivotal role in the story.

Their roles are bigger this time around. Pugh joined the franchise in ‘Dune: Part Two’ as Princess Irulan, the daughter of Christopher Walken’s Emperor Shaddam IV, and Villeneuve repeatedly promised the role would expand. He said during that film’s press tour that a third movie would deepen the parts played by Pugh, Léa Seydoux and Taylor-Joy, all of whom had limited screen time.

Taylor-Joy returns as an adult Alia Atreides, Paul’s sister, after her brief appearance in ‘Part Two’. Character posters show her in blood-spattered form, and Timothée Chalamet singled out her performance at a July IMAX fan event, calling it genuinely terrifying.
Empire’s December issue promises an interview with Pugh about Irulan’s political machinations. That language suggests a far more active character than audiences have seen so far.
‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune Messiah’ and follows an emperor Paul Atreides, ruling an empire built on a holy war. The film is set about 17 years after the events of ‘Part Two’ and sees political plots and a galaxy-wide jihad endanger the future only he can see.
In the book, Paul marries Irulan for power, which leaves Chani betrayed, and a shape-shifting plot against the throne builds around him. Robert Pattinson plays that villain, Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer.
There’s also speculation that the film might draw on later material. Taylor-Joy’s appearance as a grown religious figure doesn’t occur in the book until ‘Children of Dune’, suggesting the movie may fold in elements beyond ‘Dune Messiah’.

The cast list is enormous. Chalamet and Zendaya lead alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa as the resurrected Hayt, with Isaach de Bankolé joining as Farok.
Marketing has leaned into that scale. A fresh set of posters for Zendaya, Momoa, Taylor-Joy and Pattinson carries the tagline “The Epic Conclusion,” along with the December 18 date and IMAX branding.
The first trailer premiered at a special Los Angeles event on March 16, and the second arrived on July 8. Reports also say the film has shattered a London IMAX presale record, topping even ‘The Odyssey’.
With Villeneuve having said this would be his final ‘Dune’ project, the sense of occasion is only growing. Every press appearance feels like part of a farewell lap, and the fashion has been a big part of it.
For Pugh and Taylor-Joy, the pairing also shows how far their characters have come since ‘Part Two’. Whether in gray wool or ivory satin, they look ready to take center stage.
