Ubisoft is in trouble again, and this time it’s for something that has fans furious. The company just updated its End User License Agreement (EULA), and it includes something that’s hard to believe: once a game goes offline or Ubisoft pulls support, you’re expected to destroy your copy.

That’s right, the new EULA clearly says that Ubisoft, or the people who made the game, can cancel your license “at any time, for any reason.” And once that happens, “you must immediately uninstall the Product and destroy all copies of the Product in your possession.”

This change didn’t come quietly. It was spotted by fans and covered in several outlets online. Gamers all over social media are slamming Ubisoft for what they see as yet another move away from player ownership and toward total control over what people can do with the games they paid for.

Ubisoft EULA

Ubisoft, once loved for big hits like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, has been on a slow and painful decline. The company’s value has dropped sharply over the last five years. It even struck a deal with Tencent, one of the most controversial names in gaming. Fans didn’t like that, and they’re definitely not happy now.

This EULA change seems like Ubisoft is preparing for the worst, maybe shutting down older games and avoiding lawsuits from players who paid for them. And it’s not just about killing off games. Ubisoft also added another line that lets them change or modify a game “for any reason or without any specific reason, at any time.”

Even worse, the company is putting the responsibility on players to keep checking the EULA for updates. If you don’t agree to the new rules? Well, Ubisoft says you have to delete and destroy your game.

Some gamers say this is the final straw. They feel like Ubisoft has lost all respect for the people who support their games. It’s not just about game servers going down; it’s about trust, and that trust is running out fast.

Ubisoft hasn’t responded publicly to the backlash yet. But fans are already making their voices heard loud and clear. Many are calling for boycotts and saying they’re done buying Ubisoft titles.

As one Reddit user put it: “They don’t even want us to keep memories of the games they made. They just want control.”

Whether Ubisoft walks this back or not, the damage may already be done. Gamers don’t forget, and they definitely don’t forgive this easily.
