‘VisionQuest’ Just Name-Dropped Peter Parker Through E.D.I.T.H., and Marvel Fans Are Noticing
Marvel loves a well-placed cross-reference, and its Disney+ shows have become a favorite place to hide them. When a series is about artificial intelligence, the connective tissue between projects can be especially fun. That is part of what makes the upcoming ‘VisionQuest‘ such a curious piece of the MCU puzzle.
The series is created by showrunner Terry Matalas and premieres Oct. 14 on Disney+ as an eight-episode run. It serves as the final chapter of the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024. Paul Bettany returns as Vision, and James Spader is back as Ultron.
Now a small but telling moment has fans talking about Peter Parker. According to a post from MCU Film News that cites ET Now, E.D.I.T.H. mentions Spider-Man’s alter ego in the show with the line, “My first boss was a junior in high school.” It is a short joke, but it lands squarely on one of the MCU’s most memorable pieces of technology. Marvel has not detailed the scene’s full context, so what comes around it remains unclear.

E.D.I.T.H. debuted in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ as an augmented reality AI housed in a pair of sunglasses that Tony Stark left to Peter. The name stands for Even Dead, I’m The Hero, and the system gave its user access to Stark Industries’ satellite network and a fleet of weaponized drones. Peter was 16 in that film, which makes the new line about a teenage boss feel especially funny.
The glasses became a major plot point when Peter handed them to Quentin Beck, better known as Mysterio, who used the system to stage an attack on London. Peter later reclaimed the glasses, but after his identity was exposed, the network went offline. A screen readout in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ indicated that the system was inactive.
In ‘VisionQuest,’ E.D.I.T.H. is no longer just a voice in a pair of glasses. Emily Hampshire plays her in a human form, alongside Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S. and T’Nia Miller as Jocasta. The show finds Vision consulting the AI personas built into his programming while he works out who he is.
There were already hints that this version of E.D.I.T.H. carries some of Peter’s influence. Popverse pointed out after the first footage that she swings into frame wearing goggles that recall Peter’s early Spider-Man suit. It also noted that her quippy delivery would not be out of place coming from the web-slinger himself.

The official synopsis says Vision has been rebooted and is hiding after escaping people who wanted to weaponize him. A bounty on his head sends him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be his reincarnated son. Along the way, he must resist Ultron’s influence and solve the mystery of his young companion.
Ruaridh Mollica plays an older version of Tommy Maximoff, one of Vision and Wanda’s twin sons. The cast also includes Todd Stashwick, Lauren Morais, Diane Morgan and Emily Hampshire. Kevin Feige appeared at D23 alongside Bettany and Spader to unveil the first trailer.
The timing of the Spider-Man nod is hard to ignore. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has become a global smash, and it is now the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. Peter’s story is at the center of the MCU conversation, so a reference in a Disney+ series feels well placed.
‘VisionQuest’ also arrives before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on Dec. 18, and outlets have suggested there could be some connective tissue between the projects. Whether E.D.I.T.H. has any connection to Peter beyond a joke remains to be seen. For now, the line is a fun reminder of how the MCU’s AI history has been tied to its heroes from the start.
